Why I'm committed to care.
I'm now almost 70 years old and have experienced a serious need for care in my family. My relative lived 80 kilometers away from me – yet I remained connected to her through every phase of her care. From care level 2 to care level 5, I experienced all the ups and downs of this challenging time.
It was a time full of worry and uncertainty: Was she drinking enough? Was she taking her medication correctly? Was the nursing staff available reliably? Every phone call, every visit, was accompanied by the question of whether she was truly well. Often, there was a feeling that she couldn't do enough because of the distance and the stress.
All of this has shown me how difficult and, at the same time, how valuable the work of family caregivers is. Now that I'm retiring, I have the time to put my experiences to good use. I've developed a program that supports family caregivers in their daily tasks – so they gain security, find relief, and know they're not alone.
It is a matter close to my heart to help others because I know from my own experience how much strength and love goes into this task – and how important it is that we empower those who are there for their loved ones every day.
